To progress, trust people, take a leap of faith and fake it until you make it
Progress requires these elements - trusting people, leap of faith and faking it until you make it. Trusting people is despite the fact that there would be many betrayals. Leap of faith is similarly despite the fact that going might not be easy and at times, I would feel terribly unprepared and foolish. Faking and acting my position and role would include the possibility that at times I will feel completely made up and superficial. I may feel exposed and really be exposed but still I would need to keep faking the role.
Finding trustworthy people is not easy. I went through 100s to find a few. Many from the 100s were indifferent while several were back stabbers. If I let the backstabbers define my behavior, which usually happens, I will be really careful trusting next 100s. With a diminished trust level, my pace to meet new people will be slow. It will take longer to find next group of trustworthy people, the reason why we make fewer friends as we grow older. The best would be to define the search by the good results and not bad. Define the effort of a mining operation by the gems I find rather than bruises I endured.
Columbus took the leap of faith when he commenced on his atlantic journey. I have to similarly take the leap of faith. Leap of faith is taken when we don't know what lies on the other side or in some case when even the existence of the other side is doubted. I, many times, gave excuses that I am not prepared for the journey. Let me do this or that. Let me take a few baby steps first to prepare me for the full journey. For bigger things in life, baby steps have almost always resulted in baby things. Leap of faith has truly changed me and took me to new things. It was leap of faith when Steve Jobs talks about connecting dots. I will not know when dots would connect. All I have to do is to dare and go in the general direction with all the gusto I can muster with the faith that somehow things would work out.
First time when I be a king, I have to fake it. There is no escaping. I have to make up my mind and get in the garb. Since I have never been the king, I don't know what goes in the mind of a king and how a king think through his or her decisions. I just need to act it out and hope that it will become apparent.
