Warm introductions work better for obvious reasons
I was turned down by the investors two times when i contacted them through Linkedin. I asked if they would be interested in the angel round and they responded "too early". I know for the fact that these people do Angel. Part of the reason might be that this is their typical response for the first time contact. Or It might be because there is some merit in warm introductions after all. Warm introduction from the third party known to both bring credibility in the equation. Investors must be receiving a ton of proposals every day and "warm introduction" is probably the first filter they apply.
I became too well aware of these filters recently while trying to hire freelancer engineers from online. At the end, none of them from popular site - upwork - could stand the test. Normal thing would have been to lower the standards, which, thanks to Sri, we did not do, eventually ending up finding better way to target engineering talent.
