Power of the powerless
Even powerless people can cause a lot of anguish. Yesterday was the day when my business partner and I discussed how to deal with one of our studio that is threatening us. This studio was consistently sloppy which caused us our time and an important client. Still we were fair to the studio in compensation. The studio owner was not happy with the compensation and made threats to us. We called his bluff and he was quiet but the discussion on how to respond took us a long time. My partner took it real hard. Even if the studio is not in a position to do any harm, mind always wanders to the hurt and unfairness. It is hard to keep off the mind from the matter which keeps us from being in the moment. It is not worth it.
Remedies to avoid such situations? First, take protective measures to eliminate the possibility that someone, however powerless, can do any harm. Second, be nice but clear in communication. Set expectations right and back it with written communication.
