Thinking big is only preached
I am afraid of thinking big or bringing something to life that is truly transformative. The idea of doing something really big is inherently ridiculous in imagination. I have a feeling that this is the primary reason we avoid thinking about transformative ideas. On the other hand, thinking about incremental changes or modifying existing products is easy. It makes more sense. It is safe and results are visible in relatively short term. Most of all, your friend and family don't think you are insane when you mention the idea. VCs fund you because the market is somewhat tested or their mind can comprehend that there would be a market and they can get their exit soon.
We are preached to think big but in reality one should be prepared for lot of resistance and ridicule for thinking big. It is about long term seemingly unachievable ideas. Think Elon Musk. People are waiting for him to fail at every turn. One failed launch and he is ridiculed. The only support for the one who think big is his or her own faith in the idea. He or she draws strength and inspiration from it.
